Bola Tinubu
Besides the fact that only a political novice will not recognize, respect, and give honor to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his political doggedness and strong network which coupled with the presidential power entrusted to him, it could be understandable to agree that any gang-up against his 2027 second term election will end up strengthening his political chances towards a successful second term election.
Although politics is a game of numbers, give it to Tinubu when it comes to defeating political gang-ups against his interest, either by people from within his camp or surest political opponents. The case of the developing gang-up coming from the north might not be different.
Recently, there was political intonation to visitations among some strong northern political elites, mostly across opposition parties.
First was the homage paid to the former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, by his arc rival during the 2019 presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president of Nigeria.
This visitation was among some political alignment that many people wouldn't have suggested, depending on the acclaimed integrity of Muhammadu Buhari but as many people thought about it, the northern leaders wanted the power to remain in the region in 2023 but failed. They see 2027 as another year to reattempt the movement.
Will Muhammadu Buhari support Atiku Abubakar's presidential ambition?
Amidst the search for the right answer to the above question, the primeboy of northwestern politics, Nasir El-Rufai was seen paying visitation to former President Muhammadu Buhari. The visitation many people saw as a means to strengthen the gang up against Tinubu's second term election.
Recall that, even though El-Rufai was nominated as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by President Tinubu a security report was allegedly raised against his nomination which stopped the National Assembly from confirming his nomination. Hence, people have seen ElRufai's displeasure and readiness to work against the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the next elections.
There was still another visitation between the former Governor of Kano State and the National leader of the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwakwanso, and Mallam E'rufai.
Amidst the political visitation and suggestions for gangs up, it was speculated that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is aiming to run again for the 2027 presidential election with a new vice presidential candidate from the South-South.
Another political permutation is the possibility of flying a presidential ticket between Goodluck Jonathan and Rabiu Kwakwanso as his running mate.
There was another permutation that aimed towards a political alliance between Atiku's camp and Peter Obi's cycle where Atiku allegedly seemed to be asking for a single-term presidential slot while Peter Obi succeeded him.
Considering all these permutations, one can only see a better chance for President Tinubu to win his reelection.
First, having Atiku Abubakar on the ballot in 2027 could be considered a plus for President Tinubu's chances as Atiku stands no chance of gathering enough votes as he had ever done. He is aged and has been given opportunities so many times. Atiku's presidential ambition in 2027 may further break the People's Democratic Party (PDP), giving APC a better chance of victory.
Taking a keen look at the possibility of alignment between Atiku and Obi, one could easily deduce the impossibility of such alignment. Would Atiku, considering his age, allow Peter Obi to take the first turn of the presidential rotational agreement? Would the obidients followers of Peter Obi trust Atiku to take the first turn?
Who between Atiku and Obi has the integrity to be entrusted with one-term presidential tenure, and cede power to others in a successful turn? This is the simple and irresolvable obstacle that will stop the alignment along that axis.
Bringing Kwakwanso to the permutations by the planners of the alleged Northern gang-up could be considered their biggest mistake.
Kwakwanso is more politically aware and knows what political alliance may jeopardize his future chance of getting to the helm of affairs.
A reasonable political gladiator won't suggest Kwakwanso entering into a political alliance that will block his chances shortly when it would be the turn of the North to produce a presidential candidate in 2031.
Kwakwanso would rather reignite his support for President Tinubu's second term and walk his way to the corridor of power than jeopardize his chances with an unrealizable attempt.
Above all, if all these political gladiators could not come to a term and collectively work together in the alleged gang-up against Tinubu's second term in office, arguably, failure awaits the gang-up just the ways the gang-up against Tinubu failed during his first term election.
