A member of the community has just informed R-Community of a scenario one of his friends is currently going through. The issue is caused by the sudden hike in the price of cement in the market as a cement retailer disagreed with his customer who had made payment for 100 bags of cement since December 2023.

"One of my friends just called me with a business issue that requires urgent attention. He said he paid for 100 bags of cement to a dealer in December last year at N5,200 per bag (N520,000), with an agreement that he would come for the bags of cement this February.
"According to him, the money was from a deal he pulled off, so he wanted to tie it down in bags of cement for his building project; to avoid the temptation of spending it during the Christmas and New Year celebration.
"Now, he went for the bags of cement, but the dealer said he's now selling at N10,500 per bag and for the customer to either make up for the difference or collect the money he paid last two months.
"According to the dealer, based on the current price of N10,500, the 100 bags of cement would be N1,050,000, meaning that the man is to balance him N530,000 if he is to carry the bags of cement.
"My friend refused vehemently, insisting he reached a verbal agreement with the dealer when he paid for the bags of cement in December.
"He said he left the dealer when the issue was degenerating into a heated argument and that he is considering either going to the police or involving a lawyer.
Please, what would you advise him to do?
