Zahra Buhari, daughter of the former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has been nominated as the deputy governorship candidate of the New Nigeria People's Party, NNPP, in Edo State.
Zahra Buhari Indimi will be contesting the Edo State governorship election alongside Omo-Ighodaro Yongg, who emerged as the governorship candidate of the party.
This also trended:
Zahra Buhari and Yongg might have contested on a joint ticket under the platform of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), as suggested by Yongg but Yongg who was positioned to be the governorship candidate was denied membership in PDP until the party conducted its governorship primaries, denying the two aspirants opportunities of flying the flag of PDP in the forthcoming governorship election in Edo State.
Zahra's dad, Muhammadu Buhari was a former President of Nigeria under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), one of the major political parties in the contest for Edo State 2024 Governorship Election.
Zahra, in December 2016, got married to Ahmed Indimi, the Edo-born son of billionaire businessman Muhammed Indimi.
Muhammadu Indimi, a businessman and philanthropist, is the founder and chairman of Oriental Energy Resources, a leading oil and gas company in Nigeria.
NNPP Governorship candidate in Edo State, Omo-Ighodaro Yongg had accused APC and PDP of denying him access to his Freedom of Association over the years, which prompted him to approach the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to accord him with chances of flying an Independent governorship candidate's ticket in the forthcoming election. However, he later emerged as the NNPP governorship candidate alongside Zahra Buhari Indimi as his running mate.
