President Bola Tinubu has reportedly directed the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje to convene a meeting of the National Executive Committee, NEC of the party.
This was contained in a letter signed by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, dated August 9th.
The meeting according to the letter should be scheduled between September 8th and September 19th, 2024.
Tinubu also directed that the agenda of the NEC meeting include amongst others the consideration of a date for a non-elective convention to be held before the end of the year, 2024.
Recall that it was recently speculated that the hierarchy within APC has begun hunting for Ganduje's replacement.
Governors elected under the platform of the party from the North Central geopolitical zone were said to have been tipped to shop for the best man to replace Ganduje.
It is certainly that once the NEC of the party resolves to pick a date for the party's convention, the seat of the National Chairmanship of the party will leave Northwest where Ganduje hails.

In a related political permutation, it is speculated that some governors elected under the platform of APC have resolved to zone the National Secretary of the party out of Osun State, meaning the incumbent National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru might be edged out of the competition.
