Men of Nigeria Police have allegedly arrested a man believed to be a native doctor for allegedly transforming paper notes to N1000 notes, the Nigerian highest currency denomination.
The 62-year-old man identified as Tahir Ahmed was arrested by the police upon receiving news of the man's superstitious power.
The police claimed Tahir Ahmed was arrested on suspicion of possessing counterfeit currency even though there is yet an official statement that confirmed the superstitious Naira notes are counterfeits.

Tahir Ahmed, a native doctor residing in Bauchi, was said to have allegedly turned some blank paper notes into what appeared to be new N1000 notes after performing ritual chants on the paper notes.
Production of counterfeit currency is a punishable Offense in the Federal Republic of Nigeria under the Counterfeit Currency (Special Provisions) Act but it is unclear if the Police will still detain the native doctor for other related offenses if the ritual money turns out to be authentic after testing.
Relating to the Counterfeit Currency (Special Provisions) Act, punishment for producing counterfeit currency includes Life imprisonment (Section 5 of the Act), Fine of not less than N10,000 and not more than N20,000 for every piece of counterfeit currency produced (Section 5 of the Act)

Additionally, the Act also provides for Forfeiture of any property used in the production of counterfeit currency (Section 7 of the Act); Imprisonment for not less than 5 years, or a fine of not less than N10,000 for anyone found in possession of counterfeit currency (Section 6 of the Act)
