The administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is currently working with the National Assembly to entrench respect for the leaders, and authorities in the country and the peaceful coexistence among the residents.
This is contained in a new legislation being deliberated for approval into law, which includes among other new entries into the constitution, respect for the traditional rulers, religious leaders, State and Federal Government, and their officials in the country.
The proposed legislation also aims to place a check on the activities of some criminals in the country who impose illegal curfews on the citizens without the government's approval.
illegal curfews as stated by the government may include the incessant sit-at-home which is being declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) which restricts movement of people every Monday in the Southeastern part of Nigeria.
IPOB impose the illegal sit-at-home curfew in the Southeast to strengthen their call for the creation of the Republic of Biafra, a proposed breakaway country from Nigeria.

The Bill stipulates that anyone found guilty of destroying national symbols, refusing to recite the national anthem and pledge, defacing a place of worship with intent to incite violence, or undermining the Federal Government shall face a fine of N5 million, a 10-year prison sentence, or both.
The bill proposes that anyone who sets up an illegal roadblock performs unauthorized traffic duties, imposes an illegal curfew, or organizes an unlawful procession will be subject to a fine of N2 million, five years in prison, or both upon conviction.

The Bill imposes a fine of N4 million or a two-year prison sentence for anyone convicted of insulting, defaming, embarrassing, or bringing into disrepute the leadership of a community, religion, lawful group, local government, state, or federal government.
