The Olufi of Gbongan, Oba Adetoyese Oyeniyi, has mimicked the recent action taken by the monarch of the source, Eniitan Ogunwusi, Ọọni Ojaja of Ile-Ife banning formation, membership and activities of all marketers associations in the kingdom.
Oba Adetoyese, through the palace chiefs, went to the popular Olufi market square of the ancient town of Gbongan to announce and ensure compliance with the monarchial order.
The recent incessant rise in the market prices of food items and other essential commodities has been traced to conspiracy and unnecessary manipulation of Market prices by the association of marketers.
Some residents have speculated that market association leadership often members to sell at exorbitant price rates, unfortunately, against the wish of some market women who felt pathetic for the buyers.
Unfortunately, any member of the market association who sells lower than the given exorbitant price is meted with severe punishments including payment of an unaffordable fine or seizure of the trader's goods by the leadership of their association.
This has informed the monarch to come to the aid of the residents of their kingdom even though many people shifted the blame on the economic reform policy embarked on by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The monarch also ordered traders, especially the pepper and tomato sellers to start packaging their goods from as low as N200 per pack instead of N500 and higher rates that the association had mandated them to abide by.
With these orders coming from Ọọni of Ile Ife and Olufi of Gbongan, the constitution of any market association, forcing of prices on the traders, and punishment of traders for selling at their willing rates have now become abolished.
Traders were seen jubilating in acceptance of the order of the monarch as it was being delivered by the palace chiefs and the staff of the kingdom.
