Nyesom Wike The former Executive Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revealed that he was not the one who in Utes President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in the political imbroglio rocking Rivers State. He stated that the people of Rivers State and well-meaning Nigerians called on the president for intervention.
Nyesom Wike stated this while reacting to trending speculation from some people that he was the one who stood on President Tinubu to intervene in the crisis.
Recall that the political imbroglio between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his erstwhile political godfather, Nyesom Wike, has degenerated into a political face-off between loyalists of the two political leaders. The same crisis has led to divides between members of the Rivers State House of Assembly while many members of the Rivers State Executive Cabinet Council have resigned from their positions.
The Round Table, recently, reported that some people, especially, members of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) who are loyal to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar have condemned President Tinubu's intervention in Rivers State Crisis which returned normalcy to the state.
Amidst the political crisis, the Rivers State House of Assembly was demolished on the order of executive Governor Fubara, although he claimed it was for renovation it was glare the demolition was an attempt to stop the 27 members of the House of Assembly who are loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike to have their sitting.
Interestingly, the 27 lawmakers defied the blockade and held their session at the National Assembly Auditorium where a motion was moved and passed to start the impeachment process of Governor Fubara.
Aftermath of President Tinubu's intervention in the crisis with his 8 point resolutions, the impeachment process was stopped and normalcy returned to the state even though some people condemned the president for intervening in the state matter which they categorized as an abuse of office and violation of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
