Four Pro-Fubara Lawmakers Officially Write INEC, Request Bye-Election in 25 Constituencies

The four members of the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara headed by the factional speaker of the divided State House of Assembly, Hon. Ehie Edison have formally written a letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), requesting Bye-Election in 25 State Constituencies.

The letter which was dated December 14th, 2023 was received by the electoral umpire on December 15th, 2023.

The letter listed 25 members of the 27 House of Assembly members who announced their defections from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The defected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly cited the political crisis rocking the PDP in Rivers State as the reason for their defection.

However, the Rivers State House of Assembly has been divided into two with four members of the House forming a faction in support of Governor Fubara while the other 27 members formed another faction in support of former Governor Nyesom Wike.

The four lawmakers supporting Governor Fubara insisted the seats of the 27 lawmakers who dumped PDP are vacant, and INEC should commence preparation for a Bye-Election in the state constituencies.

Recall that the Round Table early reported that the 27 pro-Wike lawmakers have allegedly acquired a court order to commence the impeachment process of Governor Fubara, tomorrow Monday, December 18th, 2023.
