GUATEMALA CITY -- The family of a Guatemalan journalist on Saturday acclaimed his transfer to house arrest consequent his jailing for more than two years amid his daily newspaper's anti-corruption investigations.
José Rubén Zamora, who founded El Periódico, which specialized in anti-corruption revealing and closed a year ago, walked out of jail Saturday evening.
“I’m very grateful for everyone’s solidarity, without you I would have been forgotten,” Zamora said, choking up with emotion.
