Man converting mosque do shops Still unbelievable, strange, and pathetic, a man who built a mosque for a community in the northern part of Nigeria, about 30 years ago, has allegedly locked the mosque and decided to convert it to shops for rent.
The old man is said to have built the mosque for the community since the early 1990s. However, the recent economic hardships had hit and frustrated him and he turned into a beggar before he could eat.
The man on Monday, February 19, the frustrated man was said to have informed the Muslim Faithful who observed their daily prayers in the mosque about his readiness to take over the mosque building and convert it into shops. He, thereafter, locked up the mosque and went home with the keys.
When the man was approached to confirm the cause of his decision, he was quoted to have claimed he has been unable to feed himself because he is jobless, and he has no other property than the building besides the mosque, where he lives; the house he said he doesn't want to sell. Then, the building he donated to the community as a mosque about 30 years ago was the only option left for him.
He was also quoted to have claimed that he had been begging Muslim Faithful who prayed in the mosque for help over the past two months, but not even cereals he was able to get assistance.
The man, still surprised, went back to the mosque building early morning today, climbed the roof, and started removing the roof in preparation for its conversion to shops.
The man's decision has generated mixed reactions as some people supported his action, and many people insisted he should have hope in God who can best reward him for his good deed.
