A school consultant, Dr. Grace Philips, has implored government authorities to ensure students who perform excellently in the tertiary institutions' matriculation examinations should be put into teaching lines.
Dr. Philips stated this while reacting to the trend in society and the poor performances of Nigerian students who were seeking admission into higher institutions in the country.
Dr. Philips said, "Students who got high UTME scores should be encouraged to consider teaching as a career option after completing their degree program."
Recall that it is a norm in Nigeria that best-performing students should be enrolled in fields that are considered hotcakes and respective after graduation.
Best students are seen in the fields of engineering, technology, law, banking and finance, medicine, pharmacy, and a couple of other disciplines that are considered to be first-class.
However, average-performing students who struggle to graduate from high school are mostly left out in the colleges of education, and unfortunately, the teachers' training college requires the lowest score for qualification for admission under the Nigerian higher institutions' admission system.

What are the likely incentives you hope the government can introduce to actualize such a wish, knowing well that even if the salary structure of the worker is optimized, those in the hotcake fields will continue to earn more than in the teaching fields?
