The Downsides of the Governors who Took Buhari to Court over New Naira Policy

Interestingly, while attempting to avert the socioeconomic hardship in the country which was instigated by the widely condemned new naira policy, some northern governors including Kogi, Kaduna and Zamfara States Governor Yahaya Bello, Nasir El-Eufai and Bello Matawalle, have dragged the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari over approval of the policy that seems to cause more problems for the citizens.

As usual, there has been diversity in how the people react to the step taken by the Governors. While some citizens applaud their actions, many who condemn them looked at the political reasons behind the sustainability of the new naira policy, mostly as we approach Election Day.

Above all, the three governors who took President Buhari to the Court over the hardship being imposed by the new naira policy may be commended for sincerely standing with the masses, mostly, when the same president being taken to the court is a member of the same political party that produced the three governors. This is a pure show of love and concern for the welfare of the citizens they govern, irrespective of their political relationship with the President. However, these three governors may be criticized for sharing a common front that might have required this action they are just taking, to have been taken, years ago.

Noticeably, Kogi, Kaduna and Zamfara states have been at the forefront of Nigerian states where insecurity has taken over orders of the days.

There have been countless attacks from bandits, insurgents, kidnappers, illegal miners (exclusive to Zamfara) and other forms of atrocity that have been happening in Kogi, Zamfara and Kaduna States for the past number of years.

Sincerely asking ourselves, what has prevented these governors from picking the legal option to tap awake the president in the course of ensuring the security of life and property of the citizens of Nigeria and other residents in their respective states?

How better would it have been, if these governors have taken the president, Muhammadu Buhari, to court for not doing enough to stop incessant killings of innocent residents of their states?

These could be one of the major downsides of the Governors of Kaduna, Zamfara and Kogi States - Nasir Elrufai, Bello Matawalle and Yahaya Bello, respectively despite the good step they have taken to challenge the president on the hardship being inflicted on the citizens with the new naira policy.
