Immediately after he was sworn in as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, the former Executive Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike decided to jack up the quality of the physical presentation of Abuja before the international communities.
Nyesom Wike claims that the physical presentation of Abuja does not match the cadre see of the country's capital city in civilized countries of the world. Except for political or other unnecessary differences that may wall his opponents, it could be hard for anyone to discard Wike's claim. However, the ways he would implement his transformational agenda towards building a new Abuja without stepping in toes, and mostly settling political scores against his opponents were the major points for consideration, not most importantly the objective of his mission to repaint the capital of Nigeria.
Politically, it could be worrisome for Wike to clean up the debris on the streets of Abuja without stepping on toes across political parties including his political party, People's Democratic Party (PDP), and that of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC), and everyone ought to have been in expectations of when he would make his transformational agenda a selective one.
The first of his steps towards the physical transformation of Abuja was the banning of commercial motorcycle riders within the heart of the Federal Capital City. It was thoroughly implemented without political affiliation or much distraction. That is awesome and even better than what the majority of the expected his transformational agenda would turn to when he Kick-starts the implementation.
Now, he has decided to meet with the herdsmen before he commences the war against cattle rearing in the FCT.
This has generated a lot of questions from Nigerians as they demanded Wike should fall on the cattle Rearers without negotiations as he fell on the Okada riders (local name for motorcyclists).
The argument is considerate, funny, and normal but lacks objectivity.
Don't be surprised with this stance and put your mind at rest that this is not to ridicule the Okada Riders.
It is important to recall that no government administration, except the military, can wage war against any living object the same way it could be done on non-living entities.
Cattle are animals with access to some Rights under the Animal Acts of any nation of the world, no such Act exists for mechanical entities.
Know fully well that Law is not always in line with the norms in a particular society as it is usually established beyond the scope of societal norms which may have generational connections, and influences and widely lacks commonality as societies differ.
Many people are judging the Okada, Cattle bans and the modalities of implementing this with their societal norms.
Going against the norms by some people who will also regard cattle to occupy anywhere they head, not minding the picture it paints Nigeria in the international community will also be compelled to take their seats.
Animal Acts may cover their existence, but their freedoms are often restricted once they are reared for commercial purposes.
For instance, when the roaming cattle cause an accident, liter the road, or are responsible for the destruction of property or businesses of others, the cattle or the owner should be held responsible but how many cattle herdsmen have ever looked after the dung of the cattle on the roads and the casualties they created when they caused an accident?
These are the reasons cattle may not only need to leave the streets of Abuja but every road across the 36 states in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Above all, in support of the Okada Riders, as we all know that majority of them were forced to take the alternative job for survival, it would be great if the Federal Government through the FCT Ministry can commence to convert seized motorcycles to Tricycles, and release it to the original owners after payment of a certain amount of money, and their operational terrains should be restricted from the FCT. Also, seized Tricycles should be fined a certain amount of money as tye operation of motorcycle and tricycle may be restricted from the capital city.
