Rivers APC Faction A clique of political members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State have reportedly met in Port Harcourt to unanimously decide to give their support to the Executive Governor of the state, Siminalayi Fubara, who is a member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP).
The group, which was full of former local government Chairmen in the state met today, Thursday, February 29, 2024, at the residence of Chief Dr. Theodore Georgewill to give their support to the Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Recall that the political imbroglio between Governor Fubara and his erstwhile political godfather, Nyesom Wike, had sent the Governor on high demand for re-recruiting fresh political allies ahead of the next governorship election in the state.
Nyesom Wike had resolved that Governor Fubara would be replaced, probably, by the candidate of the APC in 2027 but Governor Fubara is leaving no stone unturned to retain his governorship seat beyond the first four years which was fully bankrolled and influenced by Wike.
Besides, the fear of the influence of the presumed dominance of Wike in the Rivers State chapter of the APC, as he is being projected to defect to the party before the 2027 election has sent a strong signal to some members of APC who would not want to test the weight of their political influence against Wike in an internal political affair.
Recall that recently, some loyalists of Wike who are members of the Rivers State House of Assembly defected from PDP to APC, a development many people viewed as the presumed political future of Wike.
Reacting to the same development, all members of APC, including loyalists of Rotimi Amaechi, who worked against the presidential ambition of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Rivers State during the 2023 general election had pitched tent with Governor Fubara.
