President of the United States, Joe Biden, has withdrawn from the 2024 presidential election in the country.
Biden's withdrawal was communicated via a note signed by him as released on his social media platforms.
His action followed calls from congress Democrats who asked him to step aside for a well fittest candidate to take the party's nomination.
President Biden, in his withdrawal notes, said he will focus his energy on completing his single term Presidency.
President Biden, however, nominated his Vice President, Kamala Harris the party's presidential candidate.
President Biden said "My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.
If the nomination of Kamala is fully endorsed by the democrats, Kamala will face former U.S. President Donald Trump at the general election on November 5, 2024.
