Kano State Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo has threatened that the Supreme Court of Nigeria should not attempt to subvert what he called the will of the people of Kano State in its judgment on the Kano State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.

Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdulsalam, who was addressing supporters of the Kwankwasiyya movement on Sunday while inspecting the Gwale Local Government Secretariat which was razed by an inferno on Wednesday, threatened that the people of Kano will resist any means to remove Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to whom they cast their votes during the March 2023 Governorship Election.

He said “We can see so much tension in Kano, and people are more agitated and want justice to prevail. The importance of Kano in Nigeria cannot be overemphasized, and so let nobody play with the security situation of Kano because doing that, may trigger tension in the country.”

In a related development, the Kano State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Abbas, in a statement released in Kano, encouraged Nigerians to disregard a rumor that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kano State leadership of APC have concluded plans to ensure APC wins the Kano State Governorship litigation in the Supreme Court. He alleged that the story was sponsored by the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP).

He said “There is nowhere such meeting held with either Mr President or any leader of the party. President Bola Tinubu is a democrat and strongly believes in the rule of law, and the right thing to be done, and therefore will not be part of any arrangement or reconciliation to subvert justice and support people, who have stolen votes or breach the Electoral Act to emerge as leaders.”

Recall that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf lost the Kano State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal at both the Tribunal and Appeal Court. Although the judgment delivered at the court of appeal on the election litigation went rancorous as there were discrepancies in the Certified True Copy (CTC) and the oral judgment delivered by the court.
