Lagos State Taskforce, in an intensified effort to ensure the safety of its roads and residents, has seized 497 motorcycles popularly known as Okada from Okada riders who plied restricted roads.

The government authority in the state has restricted the movement of motorcycles, private and commercial, on some sections of roads in the state.

The task force, in its recent operation led by the Chairman of the agency, CSP Shola Jejeloye on Monday, February 12th, 2024, covered areas such as Doyin Bus Stop, Alakija, Iyana Iba, Igbo-Elerin, Festac Link Bridge and Igando.

The Chairman described the activities of okada operators, especially along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, as reckless due to the nonchalant attitude of the operators on the corridor.

“Okada operators here are the cause of major accidents and a big threat to the security architecture of the State along this route, especially the ones you see facing oncoming vehicles directly on one way. It is complete madness and I recommend anyone caught in the act be subjected to psychiatric evaluation”, Jejeloye stated.

The Chairman promised the people of the state that the agency would not let them down as the violators of the restrictions have caused the loss of several lives and property of the people of the state. He, therefore solicits the support of the residents of the state for a safer Lagos.

Seized motorcycles by the Lagos State Taskforce is not a bailable offense as the penalty for the violation is strict and results in the total crunching of the motorcycles.
