I am Disappointed, I Thought Tinubu Was A Serious Nigerian - El-Rufai Spit Fire and Hell The Round Table reveals that El-Rufai revealed President Tinubu betrayed him for not fulfilling the promise and monotony he had with him that made him unite with his campaign team.
In an interview with BBC Hausa Service, on Thursday, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) chieftain reported President Tinubu promised to make him Minister of Power if he triumphs.
According to him, Tinubu informed him he required to be the president that would address Nigeria’s decade-long power issues.
He underlined that he never solicited any ministerial position from the President. It was the President that made the offer to him.
“That was what they always disclosed. But the question is: Did I influence to become a minister? I know those who paid money to become ministers.
“Perhaps if he (President Tinubu) privately made a promise to appoint me, he would have declined it. But he publicly begged me in Kaduna to come and work with him. Even at that, I did not accept his request until we sat privately to dialogue the issue. He (Tinubu) revealed power problem has become an issue to Nigeria’s development, and successive leaders have failed to solve the problem.
“He (Tinubu) sought my endorsement to accomplishing his dream of becoming the president who solves the power problem. It was in the light of this opposition, I accepted to consider working with him. I thought he was he serious,” Daily Nigerian quoted him.
Asked whether the President betrayed him, Mr El-Rufai replied, “no he betrayed himself“.
Asked if he regretted encouraging the President since he did not keep to his promise, her responded, “Well, I can’t reveal I regretted, howbeit I am disappointed“.
Speaking about his defection from the APC to the SDP, the former Governor of Kaduna State revealed that former President Muhammadu Buhari was aware of his decision to leave the ruling party, showcasing that he never took major political steps without telling the former president.
“I left APC with his knowledge. I went to him on Friday and told him that I was leaving the party. There is nothing I do without telling him,” El-Rufai reported.
He further clarified that during his tenure as Kaduna governor, he sought Buhari’s input before appointing commissioners, ensuring that none of his nominees had ever spoken against the former president.
“Even when I was Kaduna governor, before appointing commissioners, I would present a list to him for review, ensuring none had ever insulted him.
“After reviewing it, he would announce there was no problem, and he would pray for success. I consulted him on everything I did,” he appended.

When asked about having a political godfather, El-Rufai rejected the notion be that as it may acknowledged seeking implorations from certain individuals.
“What is a godfather? I have elders whom I consult before making more or less major decision. If they notify me to halt a plan, I do so. My primary political mentor is Muhammadu Buhari.
“As for the others, I won’t mention them to avoid undue pressure on them,” El-Rufai illuminated.
Speaking on why he endorsed Tinubu for the 2023 presidential election, El-Rufai, who had earlier stated that he did so because Tinubu dialogued with him and promised him to be appointed Minister of Power, further stated that “I have no regrets backing him, taking one thing with another I feel blindsided. However, I endorsed Tinubu for two reasons.
“First, Yoruba Muslim leaders from the Southwest came to me in Kaduna, illuminating that their people were competing with political challenges. That was the leading reason I encouraged Tinubu.
“The second reason was our constancy that the presidency should bounce back to Southern Nigeria in 2023 to ensure equality and fairness in the country,” El-Rufai revealed.
He reiterated that his decision to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) stemmed from the party’s variation from its founding principles.
“The APC abandoned the ideals that led to its formation. It has abandoned the people. Everyone is now chasing personal interests and wealth. The government has become the business enterprise where everything has a price.
“There is no justice. Those who worked for the party are not recognised, let alone rewarded. Appointments are now controlled by a selected group from Lagos. The party is dead.
“That is why I consult Tunde Bakare, Buhari, Abdullahi Adamu, Adams Oshiomhole, and Bisi Akande before making my decision,” El-Rufai revealed.
