Nigerian Defense Minister Hints Activation of ECOWAS Standby Force Against Rising Revisionists
The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has summoned on member states to foster collaboration and unity in the face of unfolding threats such as terrorism, hosted crime, climate swerve, and other forms of criminality.

Speaking at the opening of the 43rd Ordinary Meeting of the ECOWAS Committee of Chiefs of Defence Staff in Abuja, the Minister furthermore emphasised the urgent require for an unified approach to addressing the pressing security opposes confronting the West African sub-region and the complexities of the current security landscape.



A statement signed by his PA, Media and Publicity, Mati Ali, on Wednesday, disclosed that Badaru opined that the rise of global populism and revisionist ideologies has magnified the region’s vulnerability, annexing that economic growth and sustainable peace are fairly linked.

He implored member states to deepen collaboration and unity in the face of developing threats, containing terrorism, organized crime, climate alternate, cybercrime, and pandemics.

The minister observed that those in the sub-region must reinforce their bond, noting that their collective resolve is now more provisional than ever.

Badaru showcased: “We must recognise that we are totally only as strong as our weakest link. It is implanted that we close ranks against these threats and refocus our strategy to dismiss terror and insecurity a breeding ground.”





He underscored the significance of the discussions planned for the meeting, which will focus on conditional issues such as the ECOWAS Standby Force, Peace Support Operations, and Maritime Security in the Gulf of Guinea.

The minister expressed optimism that the deliberations would be characterised by collaboration, innovation, and a shared determination to craft sustainable strategies to address the security wants of the region.

Badaru likewise revealed the activation of the ECOWAS Standby Force, a pivotal step in the collective truce against terrorism and insurgency, reinforcing the commitment of member states to ensuring the safety and security of their citizens.

The minister expressed gratitude to the Chiefs of Defence Staff for their unwavering dedication and professionalism in safeguarding the well-being of the people of West Africa. He implored all participants to approach the discussions with purpose and solidity, recognising the potential of their collective efforts to shape a more secure and prosperous future for the sub-region.
