There were mixed reactions following the sudden emergence of a portrait of the recently embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Abba Kyari. The Portrait portrayed him as a future Inspector General of Police in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The Portrait was said to have been taken to Kuje Prison on Wednesday by one Ben, an artist who was quoted to have said "He has never met Abba Kyari before but he did it for free out of Love for the Super Cop.
The Portrait might have generated mixed reactions because of the recent ordeal of DCP Abba Kyari where he was arrested, detained, and charged to court with criminal offenses related to drug trafficking and failure to declare assets.
Although Abba Kyari has been granted bail by a court on charges related to his failure to declare assets because it is a bailable offense he was yet to be released from June Prison because the presiding judge handling his drug trafficking-related case has not granted him bail or concluded his case.
Nigerians, mostly youths were of diverging reactions to the portrait and the caption regarding DCP Abba Kyari as a "Future IG". Some youths condemned the presentation, recalling that the case before DCP Kyari is not jovial and he does not deserve the regard contained in the Portrait, many others were filled with joy backing the artist that DCP Kyari has been a gallant Nigerian Police Officer.
It was however not known whether the presenter of the Portrait, Ben, was allowed to see DCP Abba Kyari for presentation but for the portrait to have gained publicity on a Facebook page being operated in the name of DCP Abba Kyari, it means he might have learned about the portrait.
