The Rivers State Government has awarded the reconstruction of the Rivers State Assembly Complex to Monier Construction Company for N19.5 billion. This decision was disclosed during the State Executive Council meeting held at Government House, Port Harcourt on Friday.
The project is proposed to be completed in nine months
On October 30, 2023, a fire outbreak at the Hallow Chambers of the Rivers State House of Assembly led to the demolition of the complex, rendering it unsafe for the Assembly members to carry out their legislative duties.
Governor Fubara had earlier promised to renovate the assembly complex and made alternative provisions for the Assembly members to effectively perform their legislative duties of making laws to move the State forward at the Government House.
Note: Spending a huge sum of N19.5 billion on the reconstruction of Rivers State Assembly Complex is assumably a waste of scarcely available state resources bearing in mind that the assembly complex was allegedly set ablaze by some political agents accused of having to do with the same state Governor.
Are we to assume that Governor Fubara allegedly sponsored the demolition of the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex to settle political scores with his erstwhile political godfather, Nyesom Wike, or create an avenue to spend such a whooping amount of N19.5 billion on a project while residents of the state wallow in poverty?
