Rising from it's 566th meeting on Friday, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) approved the expulsion of the Former Governor of Enugu State, Chimaroke Nnamani and six others for anti-party activities and other grave offences in violation of its constitution.

According to a statement released by the PDP spokesman, Debo Oloogunagba, the other six members of PDP who were expelled alongside Chimaroke Nnamani are Chris Ogbu (Imo), Ajijola Lateef Oladimeji (Ekiti), Olayinka James Olalere (Ekiti central II), Fayose Oluwajomiloju John (Ekiti central I), Akerele Oluyinka (Ekiti north I), and Emiola Adenike Jennifer (Ekiti south II).

Keenly observing the new political development it could be assumed that the party has taken the right decision at a very wrong time.

It is a basic political norm and part of the Constitution of every political party in the country that a member is embodied with the service to promote the party and support every course that of presented by the party. Otherwise, such members stand to be punished by the party.

The cases of Chimaroke Nnamani and the six other members of the PDP who were expelled yesterday are nothing different from what was contained in the Constitution and political norms in the country. This is because all the expelled members of the party have political differences with the choice of the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar.

However, it is very dangerous in timing of the implementation of the disciplinary action. It is just a few days to the presidential election and PDP is expelling some of his key members, mostly from the states where the performance expectancy of the party is not reliable.

Look at Ekiti State, All Progressives Congress (APC) is the ruling party and PDP is expelling five members from the state who are all allies of the state's former Governor Ayodele Fayose.

Fayose is the foremost leader of the PDP in Ekiti state and anything against him at this time would be considered very critical and unfavourable to the party.

Likewise, the political influence of Senator Chimaroke Nnamani in Enugu State could not be underrated in the forthcoming election in the state, mostly as a serving Senator and PDP senatorial candidate for Enugu West senatorial district.

Imo State is not in the good interest of PDP and the party is expelling one of their key leaders in the stat, mostly at three weeks to the elections that is considered unfavourable to the party.

This is simple, the party has taken the right decision to enforce discipline within the party towards building massive support for all their candidates, but the principle was implemented at a very wrong time when there won't be enough time to effect any reconciliation move in the warring states. This will cost the PDP and may further narrow the party's chance in the forthcoming election.
