The Federal Government of Nigeria has insisted that it has uncovered 1,618 civil servants who are on its monthly payroll but with Fake Employment Letters.
Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan made this known on Wednesday in Abuja, during a media parley organized as part of programs marking the 2024 Civil Service Week, with a theme: Education an African fit for the 21st Century: Building Resilient Education System for Increased Access to Inclusive Longlife, Quality and relevant Learning in Africa.
The Federal Government claimed in the past year, it has detected and deleted from the Integration Personnel Payroll and Information System (IPPIS) about 1,618 officers in the Civil Service with illegal and fake employment letters.
She disclosed that through physical verification conducted by the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of Government, the once over-bloated federal civil service has now been brought down from over 100,000 to 69,308 who have been verified and are on the payroll.

Although we blame politicians and political officeholders for the high rate of corruption in the land, how do we quantify the exorbitant rate with which the civil servants are milking the Nigerian Treasury?
Unfortunately, this is the same set of people who condemn their salary scales, and treatment from the government and patronize themselves as the pious ones.

These are properties that many former Senators, House of Representatives members, Ministers, and even some former Governors do not have.
How do you think Nigeria can eradicate corruption within the civil service, most importantly recalling a claim that it is almost impossible for any politician to perfect a corrupt case without the support of a civil servant, who in many cases masterminds the corrupt practices?
