Federal Government of Nigeria has directed all Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCo) to immediately return all excess charges contained on their customers' bills or face sanctions as the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu embarks on various measures to ensure an improved power supply to an average Nigerians.
The government stated that it has set up a Situation Room to entertain complaints from the customers who felt cheated by any of the DiSCos operating in Nigeria.
Speaking at the fourth briefing organized by the Federal Ministry of Information, the Voice Chairman of the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr. Musiliu Oseni said “We have given directives to all the DisCos, communicate with customers, and any customers who have experienced wrong billing, you have to refund them. We want to appeal to Nigerians, if your DisCo does not refund you by Thursday (April 11, 2024) please contact us: complaints@nerc.gov.ng, and we also have a Situation Room, and contact numbers, on our website.”
Many power consumers have complained about estimated bills otherwise called "Crazy Bills" by the DisCo to their postpaid clients.
The federal government has taken various measures towards controlling the excessive charges of the power consumer by the DisCo, however, there has not been any improvement as DisCo continues to allocate estimated bills to their clients.
With the April 11th deadline given to the DisCo, the federal government seems prepared this time to stand on the DisCo to stop milking on the power consumers.
