EFCC Arrest 50 Yahoo Boys, 115 Currency Racketeers in Kwara, Enugu
Suspected Internet Fraudsters
Operatives of the Nigerian anti-graft agency, Economics and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 50 suspected internet fraudsters and 115 Currency Racketeers in two separate operations conducted in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, and Enugu.

The arrested suspected internet fraudsters were said to contain 48 students of the Kwara State University, KWASU, Ilorin, and two others.

"The suspected Yahoo boys were arrested on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, in their various hideouts after days of surveillance and fruitful intelligence on their suspected involvement in internet-related offenses," EFCC claimed.

Items recovered from the suspects include nine exotic cars, twenty-four (24) laptops, and different brands of phones.

In a separate operation conducted by operatives of the anti-graft agency in Enugu, 115 suspected money racketeers were arrested with N110 million, and $8,368 seized from them.

The suspects comprising 113 (One hundred and thirteen) males and two females were arrested in a sting operation at Owerri Road, Ogui, Enugu State, following credible intelligence about some bureau de change operators, currency speculators, and street hawkers operating illegal foreign exchange markets in that environment.

Items recovered from them include N110, 700,000.00 (One Hundred and Ten Million, Seven Hundred Thousand Naira) only, $8,368.00 (Eight Thousand, Three Hundred and Sixty Eight United States Dollars), £145.00 (One Hundred and Forty-Five Pounds), €2,725 (Two Thousand, Seven Hundred Twenty-Five Euros), 900 South African Rands, 32,000.00 CFA, 100 Turkiya, and 500 Bank Mozambique currencies in different denominations. A safe abandoned by one of the street hawkers was also recovered.

Preliminary investigation showed that some of the suspects are foreigners
from Niger Republic.

The commission vowed to charge all the arrested suspects in court as soon as possible.
