NLC There was a big drama today as members of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), differed in the proposed industrial a ton following the removal of oil subsidy.
The Nigerian Labour Congress had proposed an industrial action for Tuesday or Wednesday this week pending the outcome of a meeting with the Federal Government of Nigeria, today. NLC boycotted the meeting with the Federal Government of Nigeria while the umbrella body of the workers divided against the decision to go on strike.
Some members of the labour union who are from the southeastern part of the country declared industrial action, starting tomorrow. Although their counterparts in the 19 Northern states and southwestern states have decided to boycott the industrial action.
Unfortunately, the eastern faction of the NLC led by the National Chairman of the body, Joe Alero, held their meeting in a church hall where an industrial action was declared.
Representatives of the NLC, mostly containing leadership of the union from the non-eastern parts of the country however met with the Federal Government of Nigeria to iron out the matter at hand.
The Federal Government of Nigeria removed the oil subsidy which has been costing the government about 3.5 trillion naira annually with no impact on the national economy.
By tomorrow, only union members in the eastern part of the country have decided to embark on industrial action while their counterparts in the northern and southwestern states have declared to embark on the ir daily job routine. The position of the union members in the South-South is yet to be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.
