Dangote Trucks Some business partners of the Dangote Group were caught on camera across the border of Nigeria with Cameroon in Adamawa State, smuggling bags of cement to Cameroon.
Governor Ahamadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa, yesterday, disclosed that the hike in the price of cement and other building materials in Nigeria is a result of smuggling of the building materials meant for the Nigerian market to the neighboring countries, including Cameroon.
Governor Fintiri's statement was a reaction to the recent hike in the price of cement and other building materials across Nigeria.
A bag of cement, which was sold recently for N5,500 has increased to price between N7,500 and N8,500 depending on the location of the market within Nigeria.
To resolve the hike in the market price of cement, Governor Fintiri directed all security operatives in Adamawa State to seize any truck that is seen smuggling cement or other building materials from Nigeria to Cameroon.
However, development from Adamawa State shows that the security operatives have ignored the Governor's order as some trailers belonging to Dangote Cement were caught on camera ferrying bags of cement from Nigeria to Cameroon through the Adamawa border.
Reacting to the development, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Fintiri, Humwashi Wonosikou, reiterated that the decision reached by the governor remains unchanged, and the declaration of war against the smugglers should be respected by the concerned players.
Governor Fintiri said “The position has not changed. Desist from doing so or face prosecution."
Governor Fintiri also warned players in the sector to respect the law or face the consequences of any indiscretion, no matter who the perpetrators are.
