Dangote Refinery Given License to Import Fuel?

Following the removal of oil subsidies in the Federal Republic of Nigeria by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, public discussions and opinions molding around oil-related topics have dominated Nigerian social media platforms.

Relatively, attempts and measures being put together by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to cushion the hardship inflicted on Nigerians by the oil subsidy removal are crucially being given special attention.

One of the measures currently being taken by the Federal Government of Nigeria to cushion the oil subsidy removal is to ensure surplus availability of the oil products so that the fueling stations will have no option to hike the pump price per liter.

In the pursuit of this, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPC Limited) has issued licenses to some companies that will be importing petroleum products to the country without adding any extra charges to the imported fuel.

Not long ago, social media went erupted with people pointing accusing fingers at the billionaire businessman, Aliko Dangote, alleging that his oil refinery, Dangote Oil Refinery has been given a license to import fuel rather than refining crude oil for which the company was constructed.

The allegations trended for almost two weeks, with many even agreeing without further investigation to establish the allegation.

However, findings within the NNPC Limited revealed that the corporation did not give any license to Dangote Refinery for oil importation. The corporation truly gives licenses to some companies whose identities could not be revealed for security reasons, and the secret nature with which the Corporation operates.

So it is a lie, according to NNPC Limiteds that the Dangote Refinery has been given a license to import fuel to the country
