NYSC Corp Members A trending online story revealed a set of National Youths Corp Members (NYSC) who were denied access to share cash and food items among prisoners during their visit to a correctional center around their place of primary assignment.
One of the corp members who was believed to be on an outing tour of their Community Development Service (CDS) meeting stated that they chose to visit a correctional center to share the moment of the festive period with the prisoners.
The NYSC CDS members decided to visit the correctional center, aiming to share cash and some food items with the inmates. However, on getting to the correctional center, they were denied access to the inner side of the correctional facility claiming they could not go in with the food items.
They were asked to drop the food items at the entrance, allowing six corp members to go inside the prison to make their presence with the inmates.
The corp members who felt shortchanged by the decision taken by the correctional service guards decided to return to the streets with their packs of food items, sharing them with the beggars. They had thought the guards decided so they could take advantage and eat the food items.
A corp member said, "We bought these items and some cash to go share with prisoners, unfortunately, the security personnel at the gate gave us the condition that we wouldn't go in with the items......we dropped it with them then only 6 corners will go and see the prisoners......
"We calculated that the securities will eat these things.
"We went and shared it to the beggars on the road......
"They think they are wise.
However, reacting to the development, the majority of the netizens who reacted gave kudos to the security personnel for living up to the task of securing the prison and the inmates.
They claimed that it is unprofessional to allow a crowd of people to gain access to the correctional center at a time, also, it would have been threatening if they had allowed the corp members to share the food items which might have been suspicious or would not even be enough to go round all the inmates within the facility.
