Community Leaders Threaten Nigerians Over Arrest of 80-Year-Old Man Behind Ekiti and Kwara Kidnapping Issues
Oyebanji Olowofela
Leaders of the Igbara-Odo Development Council (IDC) in Ekiti State have expressed dissatisfaction at media reports that linked one of the High Chiefs of the town, Chief Oyebanji Olowofela to the kidnapping, banditry, and terrorism hitting Ekiti and Kwara States.

A statement released by the IDC and signed by its secretary, Ayo Adekoya-Benson, disregards media claim that Chief Olowofela is a criminal and mastermind of the insecurity menace facing Ekiti and Kwara States which recently led to the killing of about three monarchs; two in Ekiti and one in Kwara State.

IDC warned Nigerians to stop broadcasting the alleged linkage of High Chief Olowofela to the insecurity menace in Ekiti and Kwara States as they claimed Olowofela's predicament is political.

The community claimed that High Chief Olowofela has been an incredible, industrious well-mannered fully qualified Electrical Engineer graduate from the prestigious University of Lagos.

The arrested Asamo of Igbara-Odo town, High Chief Olowofela, was said to be a businessman who has been a great philanthropist to the community.

The community development council in its press statement titled "Enough of character assassination and campaign of calumny against high chief (Engr.) Oyebanji Olowofela," said:

“He [High Chief Olowofela] was a foremost and prominent scholar and politician who served meritoriously as the first Majority Leader of the old Ondo State House of Assembly in the Second Republic. He did not only serve as Special Adviser on Political Affairs to the first Executive Governor of Ekiti State, he was a Governorship Aspirant in Ekiti State in the current political dispensation.”

“While it is important to state that law enforcement agents should be left to thoroughly investigate and probe into the unfounded allegations leveled against our revered political, business and traditional Leader, the Igbara-Odo Development Council (IDC) – the think tank, apex social – cultural group and leaders of thought of Igbara-Odo Ekiti – hereby uses this medium to caution, in the strongest of terms, the barefaced bloggers hiding behind the cyberspace to henceforth desist from their ongoing social media trial as well as derogatory and humiliating attack on the person, personality and image of Chief Olowofela who, unfortunately at this time, is unable to confront his faceless accusers.”

“As of today, lies, falsehood, and the baseless story being peddled around on social media have neither been substantiated by any law enforcement agent in Nigeria or elsewhere nor has any judicial authority indicted or pronounced him guilty of any criminal offense in Nigeria or elsewhere. Also, no law enforcement agency has issued or published any official statement regarding his arrest up till this moment.”

“In view of the above, and for the benefit of those who do not know the moral, ethical, and legal implications of circulating falsehood against innocent citizens, we warn that you cease and desist from acts capable of exposing you to a judicial action that attracts heavy punishment under the Nigerian law.”

Recall that The Round Table reported arrest of High Chief Olowofela for being behind the kidnapping, banditry, and terrorism facing Ekiti and Kwara States.
