The government of Lagos State on Friday sealed off the Orchid Shopping Centre in the state.
The shopping centre located in the Eti-Osa area of the state was shut down as a result of a public health threat.

The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources in the state, Tokunbo Wahab stated this in a statement on his X handle.
Providing details behind the sealing of the centre by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office, Wahab revealed the centre was discharging wastewater on the road and public drains.

He joined that the action of the centre was creating environmental nuisance and putting public health in danger.
The statement read, “The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) today, Friday, September 27, 2024, sealed off Orchid Shopping Centre’s premises located along Orchid Road, Eti-Osa, for discharging wastewater unto the road and public drains, thereby creating environmental nuisance and endangering public health.

“The agency advises all persons or organizations in the habit of discharging untreated wastewater and sewage into the environment to cease or face sanctions. The necessary sanctions will be served to the property, the owner(s), and occupiers in line with the provisions of the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, 2017.
“The Lagos State Government reiterates that the State has zero tolerance for environmental pollution and degradation,” the statement added.

Politics Nigeria reports that this action gets three days after the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) sealed off multiple establishments including churches across numerous areas of the state.
The action is LASEPA’s decisive way of tackling noise pollution and other environmental violations.
The agencies sealed are Vital Products Limited, A & P Nigeria Limited, Polite Anchorage and Suites, Redeemed Christian Church of God, Terrag Inn Apartment, Evening Class Guest House, Celestial Church of God, a printing press, Charley’s Bar, and 7th Heaven Hotel & Suites.
