Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu purchased hundreds of 2020/2021 model Toyota Camry XSE to be used as taxis in Sokoto. One unit of these cars costs about N19.5 million.
The cars meant for taxis were shared with Sokoto State ladies only as men have no quota in the project.
The state government has also acquired 70 mass transit buses to ease the transportation of people within the state. Also, Governor Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State has laid the foundation of a 500-unit housing project aiming to balance the housing deficit in the state. He is determined to spend more than NO billion on palliatives which include the car gifts he has been rolling out to individuals and government parastatals including the Security operatives, and the State Internal Revenue Board amongst others.
Although some people are appraising his government policies the cost of acquiring the exotic cars has generated mixed reactions with many people claiming that the project is madness and Northerners are the problems of Nigeria.
Would you commend the government for his style of distributing the N5 billion Federal Government palliatives fund or do you think he might have done well by doing otherwise?
Reacting to the e new development in Sokoto State, Mahmud Usman, an Abuja-based northern has this to say "If the news about Sokoto state government purchasing of this vehicle to be used as taxi in the state is true, then we have to commend the government. Henceforth, not only the Elites are entitled to enter big cars, but even the average citizens can cruise in these cars at a very cheap price. I hope other governors will copy this major developmental project.
However, the N19.5 Million Toyota Camry palliatives are targeted by the state government to ensure a drop cost of N100, irrespective of the destination and the take-off point.
