The Speech That Rekindles The Renew Political Crisis In Rivers State
Governor Siminalayi Fubara

The renewed political imbroglio rocking the Rivers State political space could hardly be traced to any cause. However, the Round Table could understand that the political impasse is caused by a recent statement credited to Governor Siminalayi Fubara while receiving a delegation of Bayelsa State leaders.

Recently, the former Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Seriake Dickson, paid a courtesy visit to Governor Fubara in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, and the Governor was heard denigrating the 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who are loyal to his erstwhile political godfather, Nyesom Wike.

Governor Fubara declared the 27 members of the Assembly as "non-existent", a statement that influenced the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to call on the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule and his fellow lawmakers to commence an impeachment exercise on Governor Fubara.

At the meeting, Governor Fubara said, "I accepted it because these were people that have eaten in my house and I have assisted pay children's school fees even when I have not become the governor."

"We may have our disagreement, but I believe that one day we could also come together, that was the reason I did it, but it was time I made a statement on this so that they understand that they do not exist."

"And because our intentions for Rivers State is to build on the foundation laid by our past leaders, it will be wrong for me to take the path of crisis. And that is why we are still seeing and recording the development that you are witnessing in the state."

At the meeting with Senator Dickson-led delegation, Governor Fubara also expressed the pro-Wike commissioners in his cabinet who resigned recently as saboteurs within his cabinet.

He accused Governor Duoye Diri of Bayelsa as "an informant" who leaked some vital information concerning the state which he [Fubara], deliberately hid from his cabinet members.

He mentions the former Attorney General of the state as one of those who received viral information hidden from his cabinet bm from Governor Duoye Diri.

Governor Fubara's utterances at the meeting with Senator Dickson-led delegation was a turning point, denigrating the effort of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's peace deal struck with Fubara, Wike, and other political stakeholders in the state. Hence, the return of the renewed political rift that is currently bedeviling the state.

However, one would be worried if Governor Fubara is a learned politician or even trying to be one.

He is battling a man with overwhelming majority in the House of Assembly. Do you think he can win him?

Governor Fubara accused his fellow Governor Diri of sabotaging his administration and make it to the press. Do you think he is not building more enemies than friends?

Governor Fubara expressed President Tinubu's peace deal as a "mere political solution" and unconstitutional. Do you think he understands the terrain of the battlefield where he is struggling?
