Nigerians Celebrate Easter In Confusion, Uncertainty, Catholic Bishops Lament
Catholic clergymen
Catholic Bishops have lamented about the state of the nation amidst this year's Easter celebration.

The Catholic Bishops, yesterday, expressed concerns about the rise in the cost of purchasing food items and other essential commodities in the market while insecurity menaces including banditry, kidnapping for ransom, and terrorism still have their way in the country.

The bishops lamented that the challenges have led to heightened tension and uncertainty among the residents as they celebrate this year's Easter.

The clergymen therefore encouraged Nigerians to be hopeful of better days ahead.

The Most Rev. Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, Archbishop of Owerri and President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), in his message, representing all the bishops in the diocese lamented that Nigerians would be celebrating this year’s Easter in an atmosphere of uncertainty, tension, and pessimism.

"To foster national unity and cohesion, all must choose the pathway to peace by shunning injustice, discrimination, bigotry, and fanaticism, which cause discord, disaffection, and disunity," the clergymen stated.

Recall that there has been an increase in the price of food items and other essential commodities in Nigerian markets which was attributed to the removal of oil subsidy by the Federal Government and the floatation of Naira in the forex market.

The Federal Government of Nigeria insists that the decisions were indispensable with the hope of bringing comfort to the residents after their manifestation.

In the past few days, there has been rumor of relief as the Naira gains against the dollar in the forex market while there is hope of a crash in the pump price of petroleum as some state-run refineries resume operations even though the impact has not been felt nationwide in the prices of all food and other essential commodities, some items have had their prices reduced.
