JoThe Executive Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq, has successfully inaugurated the disbursement of an N200 million intervention fund for the artisans in the state. According to the Governor, the grant was given to the artisans in the state with the hope of supporting their businesses and ensuring the adequate promotion of the local economy.

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq, after the disbursement of the money on Friday, stated that "Today, I flagged off the disbursement of a fresh N200 million grant for 4,000 Kwara artisans to support their businesses and strengthen the local economy. Artisans are the custodians of various skills and key drivers of sustainable economic growth.

However, the programme has been receiving diverse reactions from the citizens since yesterday, when Governor Abdulrasaq Abdulrahman make the disbursement known to the Public.

Condemning the programme as a means to buy votes from potential voters in the forthcoming general election, Zatima Fard lamented the timing of the programme suggested foul play in the process.

He alleged that "Right before now that election is approaching who is deceiving who now if you like, empower the whole Kwara State, you will still lose woefully by God grace.

In the same vein, Oloruntoba Elija argued that the money may not have an effective impact on the economy of Kwara State. His concerns were that N200 million for 4,000 people would end up adding N50,000 to each artist, an amount of money he considered too small to improve the economic status of Kwara State.

Oloruntoba stated that "200 million for 4000 artisans. Each artisan gets 50,000 each. What difference can it make in the present economy? Mr governor, you have squandered 200 million. You should have identified only 200 artisans and given them the money. It will have much more impact on the economy than this.

The special intervention programme was well regarded and the effort of the governor was appreciated by Balogun, who cited the grant as one of the projects that present the Governor as Governor of the People.

Balogun insisted that "One of the beauties of your administration is touching every sector, Formal and informal sectors.

Maruf Onibonoje, Jide Nasr and Shehu Adam agreed that the programme was a commendable one as it put an end to an era when Kwara people would go and queue at the house of someone for Amala.
