President Bola Tinubu and Former President Atiku Abubakar
The former vice president of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has revealed how he helped the President of the Country, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to secure his political career after serving as two-term Governor of Lagos State.
Atiku Abubakar spoke through his media aide, Paul Ibe, who claimed the incumbent vice president of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima was wrong for crediting President Tinubu for being a benefactor to Atiku Abubakar.
Paul Ibe claimed that the political journey that United Atiku and Tinubu in 2007 was more beneficial to Tinubu than Atiku.
He said “Truth be told, it was Tinubu that benefited immensely from Atiku’s goodwill. But for Atiku’s support, hinged on his pro-democracy instincts and rule of law, Tinubu’s tenure as governor of Lagos would have been rough with a wide possibility of termination of his political career.”
“Shettima needs to be reminded that Atiku did not run under the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), but Action Congress (AC). AC came out of a coalition of ACD (Advance Congress of Democrats), formed by mainly PDM members and other associates and Tinubu’s faction of AD.”
Paul further stated that AC delegates, not Tinubu, gave Atiku the party's mandate to contest as the party's presidential flagbearer in 2007. He stated that the political union between Atiku and Tinubu in 2007 saved the political career of President Tinubu after serving as a two-term Governor of Lagos.
Recall that Vice President Shettima had recently listed Atiku Abubakar as one of the beneficiaries of the political magnificent of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, long before the benefactor became the President of Nigeria.
Some supporters of the President have, however, challenged the former vice president to explain how he saved Tinubu, a member of the opposition party [then] while he could not help members of PDP like James Ibori, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, Joshua Dariye, and couples of other PDP governors who were prosecuted by former President Olusegun Obasanjo for supporting Atiku's presidential ambition in 2003?
