Germany Set to Deport 14,000 Nigerians

Germany deport 14000 Nigerians
Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (R)) and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (L)
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has notified Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, of Germany's intention to deport about 14,000 Nigerians residing in the country.

Germany has decided to deport 14,000 Nigerians following an increase in applications for asylum in Germany, in 2023, by some individuals who alleged they are Nigerian but have low recognitions establishing their paternity to Nigeria.

Speaking on the new development, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said "We are ready to enter into a partnership to improve migration, and Germany is ready to repatriate those who are Nigerian compatriots and have maintained good behavior.

Although President Tinubu has stated that the country will only take back those with proper documentation that show they are Nigerians.

According to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz about 12,500 Nigerians are in Germany with no documentation. He, however, vows that if Nigeria refuses to accept all the asylum, Germany may decide to stop the 640 million euros development aid coming to Nigeria.

The two countries are still in talks to agree on the modalities to uphold in the course of repatriating the 14,000 Nigerians seeking asylum in Germany. President Tinubu insists the country will only attend to those with documentation and those who have proven themselves to be of good conduct.
