The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has declared war on the coup plotters in Niger Republic to restore constitutional order in the country.
The war declaration was announced by the ECOWAS Force boss, Omar Alieu Touray, today after the second meeting of the West African country's leaders in Abuja.
According to Tourny, ECOWAS resolved to deploy its stand-by force to restore constitutional order in Niger Republic after the coup plotters denied communication with them via dialogue.
Part of the ECOWAS resolution which declared war on the Republic of Nigeria thus reads:
“Direct the committee of the Chief of Defense Staff to activate the ECOWAS Stand-by force with all its elements immediately.
“Order the deployment of the ECOWAS stand-by force to restore constitutional order in the Republic of Niger.
Sensing the humor of Niger Republic receiving assistance from their external allies, ECOWAS has therefore notified the African Union (AU), international allies comprising of countries and institutions to support the resolution made by ECOWAS to deploy its stand-by force to restore constitutional order in Niger Republic.
