Kogi Residence Electoral Commissioner Attacked Unknown hoodlums who were said to be fully armed with sophisticated weapons invaded the residence of the Residence Electoral Commissioner in Kogi State, Dr. Hale Gabriel Longpet.
According to a press release by the National Headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), property of yet-to-be-known value was destroyed during the attack.
The incident which occurred in the early hour of Friday, December 1st, 2023 around 3:30 am left no one dead even though it resulted in about 30-minute exchange of gun duel between the security operatives attached to the Residence Electoral Commission and the hoodlums.
A statement released by the INEC reads "In the early hours of today, Friday 1st December 2023, around 3.30 am, gunmen attacked the residence of our Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Lokoja, Kogi State.
"The armed men engaged the security personnel in a gun battle for over 30 minutes until reinforcement arrived.
"While no lives were lost, property was destroyed in the ensuing gun battle. A team of combined security personnel have been deployed to protect the residence. This incident occurred a day after a mob besieged our state office.
INEC called on the security agencies in the country to launch a full pledge investigation into the incident and reinforce the security of its staff and assets in Kogi State.
"We call for a thorough investigation and enhanced security protection for our personnel and assets in Kogi State," INEC tipped the security agencies.
