Member of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Deputy National Secretary of the party, Barrister Festus Fuanter, seems to have settled the cause of the political imbroglio among members of the party in Benue State.

Recall that the Benue State APC chapter has been grossly divided across the lines of the Executive Governor of the state, Hyacinth Alia, and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, who have locked horns on the leadership crisis.

Rising from a reconciliation meeting where Barrister Festus Fuanter led the APC NWC from Abuja to the state, it was resolved that the SGF, Senator George Akume will have to succumb and accept Governor Hyacinth Alia as the leader of the party in Benue State following the provisions of the constitution of the party.

He said, "The leadership of the party as far as the constitution of the party is concerned is bestowed on the Governor of the state.

"Though we have the SGF from the same state. The SGF is the son of Benue, their working together is a plus and a win-win for Benue State."

Speaking after the peace meeting, Governor Alia expressed his belief that "peace has finally returned to the Benue State chapter of the party," as the party's NWC has put to rest, the anxieties within the party in the state.

Governor Alia said, "The meeting has resolved everything, putting to rest all the anxieties. The outcome of the meeting as it is, has brought happiness on the faces of the great men and women in the party, and the party is going to turn a new leaf, which suspends anything that was drawing us back. The state can now look forward to the gains the meeting will bring, especially with me as the governor and the SGF, Senator George Akume, at the federal level.

The Benue State Chairman of the Party, Hon. Austin Agada, also expressed his happiness as he claimed peace has finally found its way to the party in the state. However, SGF, Senator George Akume was absent at the meeting and none of his representatives spoke to the press.
