President Hage Geingob has come under fire after citizens lamented over the inclusion of his four children in the government's delegation to the COP28 climate summit, which was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Namibians joined other Africans who criticize their government for allegedly wasting state funds on transporting [irrelevant] allies and family members of their presidents to the ongoing climate change summit in Dubai.
According to Namibians on X, President Geingob of the country, his wife, and four children were included in the delegation of the country attending the ongoing climate change summit in Dubai, an event that has been described as "extravagance" by the citizens even though the Office of the President in Namibia claimed Monday that "President Geingob and Madame Geingos (first lady) paid for the flights and accommodation expenses of their children."
"The Namibian public and the media should be rest assured that not a single cent of public funds has been spent on the children of the first couple," the Office of the President insisted.
Namibians are outraged about the development and one of the MPs in the country has requested for parliamentary trial of the allegation that President Geingob failed to sponsor any of the country's MPs or parliament to the summit but included four of his children in the trip.
The majority of the Namibians claim that the presence of the President's children on the trip is "irrelevant" as they have nothing to contribute to the ongoing summit. They therefore demand from the President to prove that his children's trip to Dubai was privately funded as the Office of the President claims.
Other African countries receiving criticism from their citizens for using state funds to sponsor "irrelevant" people to the Dubai Summit include Nigeria, Kenya, and Tanzania even though they have all claimed that everyone on the trip was self-sponsored or sponsored by its organization as the majority of them represents media, civil society organizations and private institutions.
