WAEC Candidates Cross Rivers State Executive Council has approved payment of the registration fees of the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) for 16,301 public school students in the state.
The approval for the payment of WAEC Fees of the public school students in Cross Rivers State was endorsed by the Executive Governor of the State, Senator Prince Bassey Otu, at the weekly Executive Council meeting of the state. The payment cut across students across all the public secondary schools in the state.
The state government claims that the WAEC fee payment is a palliative measure to cushion the effects of hardship on parents, as Nigeria battles economic challenges.
Recall that pupils and students of both public primary and secondary schools are enjoying free tuition in the State.
The decision will cost Cross Rivers State government about N440 million, according to the State Commissioner for Education, Senator Stephen Odey Ph.D.
The commissioner, however, warned the school authorities across the state to be devoid of any attempt to manipulate data needed by the government to actualize the special intervention program.
The state government warned that the program is strictly for senior secondary school III students who are indigenes of the state and properly enrolled at any of the public schools within the state.
"The State Government paying N440,127,000 (Four Hundred and Forty Million, One Hundred and Twenty-Seven Thousand Naira), for WAEC registration of Cross River State indigenes; Seriously warns against any untoward practice such as padding by school authorities of the list of beneficiaries," information released by the Senator Odey read.
