Grades WAEC NECO NABTEB
WAEC NECO NABTEB Results
It may sound amazing, to hear the younger generation asking for the meaning of a particular grade that is used to code the performances of candidates in an examination.

Besides, the case of how performances are graded in most other examinations is different from the grade schemes being used to code the performance of candidates in the West African Examination Council (WAEC), National Examination Council (NECO), and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB).

There are nine grades that are used to code the performances of candidates in the examinations mentioned above, WAEC, NECO, and NABTEB.

The grades are A1, B2, B3, C4, C5, C6, D7, E8 and F9.

Below are the meanings of each of the grades.

A1: Distinction. It is usually awarded to students who scored 75% and above in a particular subject. It is the best grade that anyone can get in any subject. It is also called Excellent which is just a synonymous word to Distinction.

B2: Very Good. Some schools call it Distinction because of the closeness in its score with that of A1. However, the fact is that it is the second-best grade that any candidate can get from any subject in WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB, and for any student to acquire this grade he/she must score between 70% and 74% marks in a particular subject.

B3: Good. It is another good grade and third best on that radar. A student must score between 65% and 69% to acquire this grade in any subject.

C4: Credit Grade 1: Credit, generally is an average result but C4 Credit is academically extraordinary among other Credit groups. A student must score between 60% and 64% to acquire this grade in any subject.

C5: Credit Grade 2: This is another great Credit result but fifth best on the radar. A student must score between 55% and 59% to acquire this.

C6: Credit Grade 3. This is the last credit grade and the last grade that can reliably be used to process your academic pursuit beyond your First Degree, Diploma, or College Certificates. A student must score between 50% and 55% to acquire this in a subject.

D7: Pass First Grade: This grade does not mean that you fail a subject but you have performed above average. It can be accepted as an alternative subject in the bid to study some courses in the University's First Degree but it can not be accepted in some major subjects both in the University's First Degree, Masters Degree, and on. For instance, you cannot study any Engineering Course in the University without Pass in English, Mathematics, and Physics. You must acquire a minimum of C6 in the three subjects mentioned above to study any Engineering Course at the University. Although, the condition varies with the Polytechnics and Colleges of Education. D7 is put into consideration as an acceptable grade, mostly if you are to study in the Colleges of Education, or Polytechnics or you want to study low-graded courses in the University. To obtain this grade, a candidate must score between 45% and 49% in that particular subject.

E8: Pass. The only difference between E8 and D7 is that a candidate who acquire D7 scored between 40% and 44% in the subject. The two ORDINARY PASS grades share the same regard in the academic institutions.

F9: Fail. It means that a candidate failed a subject. A student who acquires F9 in a subject must have scored below 39% in that particular subject.

Students who score D7, E8, or F9 in the subjects relevant to his/her intended course of study are required to resit for the subjects in subsequent examinations.
