Bola Ahmed Tinubu My President is one of the most used words on Nigeria's social media spaces today and this is not unfamiliar to the outcome of the February 2023 Presidential Election in the country. The keenly contested election which was won by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, seemed to have come and gone but it still leaves in the minds of many citizens who, assumably, felt shocked by the outcome of the election.
Waking to see arguments on who is 'My President', Tinubu is 'My President', Tinubu is not 'My President', Peter Obi is 'My President' could be considered interesting, only on a social ground, it is shameful, illogical and lost of focus with an abysmal display of political inexperience if the argument is tabled in a democratic context.
The 2023 presidential election was keenly contested by four major politicians which include the President of the country, Bola Ahmed Tinubu; People's Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar; New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Labour Party's Peter Obi. The fact that no living man can change today is that everything related to the 2023 Presidential Election in Nigeria has been concluded with the judgment delivered on the said election by the Supreme Court of Nigeria, and nothing can change the position that Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the President of Nigeria.
Who is at a loss when the populace gets lost in such a "useless" show of shame? Who else than the citizens?
At this time, every citizen including those singing Tinubu is "My President" or Tinubu is not "My President" should be on a page asking the President Tinubu-led Federal Government of Nigeria, not only his campaign promises but the short-term, medium-term, and the long-term government policies, programs, and projects that will make Nigeria a proud nation that everyone wants.
Shouting from today till 2027, or 2031 if he is reelected when the administrative tenure of Bola Tinubu will lapse officially, he remains the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and no one can alter that.
Take for instance, at the state level, the majority of Nigerians do not vote for their state Governors, if they all emulate this shameful habit of pointing to the governorship candidates they supported during the last election as their state governors, and tamper with the legitimacy of the sitting governors, the scenarios might have resulted in civil unrest in some states, going by a well-known tradition that political hostility is more liability to a restive society as it goes from Federal to the Ward levels.
With the emulative styles of Nigerian politics, the trend of Tinubu is not "My President" may soon fly to the states where some people will tell a sitting Governor to allow their own [illegitimate] "Governor" to have his ways.
Nigeria may be too big for a President to actively launch a campaign rejecting the shameful trend that he is not "My President", your state Governors have their army at the edge of your bed, it won't cost them more than an action.
Whether Tinubu is or not "My President" to you, it is better you keep that to the list of the unspoken words in your mind, and begin to ask him about the activities of his administration and suggest what they think will join to actualize the delivering Tinubu's administrative mantra of "Renewed Hope".
Could this be trended under a military regime, and is it not an abuse of the Freedom of Speech that everyone enjoys under democracy?
Are these words a beauty of democracy or we should just wait until the end justifies the means?
