The executive Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has submitted a request to visit the grave of his late political foe, Hon Soji Adagunodo, close aides to the former Osun State People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the Southwest Chairman of the party until his death, Late Soji Adagunodo, claimed.
The relationship between the Adeleke family and Later Adagunodo went sour, a few months after the Hon. Adagunodo assisted Ademola Adeleke in picking the senatorial ticket of the PDP after the death of Ademola's blood brother, the Late Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke who died in 2017 as a member of the Senate representing Osun West senatorial district.
Hon. Adagunodo was declared persona non grata by the Adeleke political camp immediately after the 2018 governorship election which the family lost to Gboyega Isiaka Oyetola after a keenly contested election.
Adeleke political camp neutralized the Osun State chapter of the PDP, frustrating Hon. Adagunodo to become a factional Chairman of the party ahead of the 2022 Governorship election which was won by the PDP. Adeleke's victory at the poll could not wholly be separated from why Hon. Adagunodo was frustrated out of Osun State, and he relocated to Ibadan, Oyo State capital where Governor Seyi Makinde seemed to have provided him with internal asylum.
Adeleke political camp rose against Adagunodo's nomination as the party's national vice Chairman, Southwest, but with the aid of the Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Adagunodo became the National Vice Chairman of PDP, Southwest, the position he held until he died in 2023.
Despite being a national leader of the PDP, a ruling party in Osun State as of the time of his death, Governor Ademola Adeleke-led Osun State government did not participate in late Adagunodo's burial.
Unfortunately, the state government deliberately fixed the commissioner'sners swearing-in ceremony for the date chosen for Adagunodo's burial, a decision that many Adagunodo's supporters saw as a means to celebrate the death of their political leader.
However, glaring at the shallow chance of his second term reelection, sources close to the Late Adagunodo family claimed Governor Adeleke had sought permission to visit the late political foe's grave, probably to seek forgiveness and realign with Adagunodo's political camp for electoral machination as the 2026 governorship poll draws closer.
Recall that the 2022 Governorship aspirant of PDP and Adeleke's arc rival, Dọtun Babayemi, recently led tenths of thousands of PDP members to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, a political defection that had caused the Governor's camp to loose sleep as hundreds of impromptu appointments were given to selected members of the party to hold the back from joining Dọtun Babayemi in the APC.
Besides, another set of PDP leaders have concluded plans to perfect their defection to APC in the coming weeks.
