People were thrown into a state of confusion as another young man set himself ablaze and suffered burns till he died in the Kasarani area of Nairobi, Kenya's national capital.
Our source in Kenya revealed that the 9 years old man who was simply identified as Denise Gakuru was heard calling for help when his neighbors discovered that he had already set himself ablaze.
"He was rushed to the hospital but on arrival, the medical experts on duty declared him dead," our source stated.
When the police were informed, they took over his corpse and moved to the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) mortuary for an autopsy, but the medical experts failed to unveil the cause of his death after the autopsy. The police described his death as a mysterious one.
Gakuru's experience of burning himself to death was not the first in recent times in Kenya as 27-year-old Robert Gituhu earlier set himself on fire and got mysteriously burnt to death in August 2023.
Gakuru was seen mounting one of the statues at the popular Mwembe Tayari roundabout in Nairobi, pouring a gallon of paraffin on himself, bringing out matches, igniting it, and setting himself ablaze.
Before he was rushed to the hospital, Gakuru was said to have suffered 80 percent burnt and he died later in the hospital.
Gakuru was identified by one of his classmates to be a graduate of the University of Eldoret where he studied Mechanical Engineering.
