The Nigerian anti-graft agency, Economics and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared the former Executive Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, wanted over an allegation of financial misappropriation.

EFCC in a social media statement titled "Ex-Gov Yahaya Bello Wanted By the EFCC" stated that the former Governor was involved in a financial scandal up to the tune of N80.2 Billion.

While EFCC solicited people's support that may have led to the arrest of Yahaya Bello, it did not place any bounty on him.

The statement read "Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, is wanted by the EFCC for offences relating to economic and financial crimes to the tune of N80.2 Billion. Anybody with information as to his whereabouts should report immediately to the Commission or the nearest Police Station."

The investigation of about N80.2 Billion against Yahaya Bello had started with the arrest of his cousin who was said to have confessed to the illicit ways through which the money was made from the Kogi State treasury. However, Yahaya Bello was covered by an immunity clause at the time of the trial of his cousin.

EFCC is advancing to quiz him over the allegation because he is no longer covered by any immunity clause which all sitting governors and the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria enjoy.
