Frank Nweke Jr Enugu State Governorship candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in the just concluded governorship election, Frank Nweke Jr. has grossly condemned what he considered a "threat against the Igbo people" in the State of Excellence, Lagos.
He also expressed sadness over the militancy of Igbo people across the five Eastern states, during the Governorship and State House of Assembly elections.
He faulted politicians, most probably Mr. Peter Obi and his fellows, who introduced ethnic chores to the rhythm of their political strategies, just to serve their personal interests.
Citing the consequences of such political tactics, Frank Nweke Jr. recalled that what has happened is not different from what led to the civil war in 1967.
Read his submission:
"I have reflected with sadness on the events of the past two days in Enugu State, other parts of the East, and Lagos.
"Ndi Igbo in Lagos are being threatened, beaten, and even killed for no other reason than being Igbo. I have seen ignorant and hateful comments of people appropriating properties owned by ndi Igbo to themselves should the opportunity arise. This is not healthy.
"Sadly, this is not new. The political elites, knowing that the intentional disrating of historical studies breeds ignorance, deploy the most unreasonable and wicked tools to incite the public and serve their own interests.
"The similarities between these events and those that led to the pogroms and, ultimately, the civil war are uncanny.
This is unacceptable, avoidable, and extremely dangerous for the entire country.
"For years, I and a number of concerned Nigerians have been speaking about the existential crisis that ndi Igbo face.
"History is replaying itself right before our eyes.
"Yet, our politicians in the East still think that deploying violence, manipulation, localised ethnic divisions, threats, and the subversion of our democratic process against our own brothers and sisters, in our own lands, is the way to hold on to power against the will of the people and the good of Alaigbo.
"We must get our act together for the progress of Alaigbo, or else, self-serving desperation will be the death of us.
