Customs Bosses as Seme Border The Nigeria Customs Service Seme Area Command, Lagos, on Monday 18th, September 2023, witnessed the transition of a new leadership from Comptroller Dera Nnadi to Comptroller Timi Bomodi.
The handing over ceremony, which took place at the ECOWAS building, Seme-Krake, Lagos Joint border post, had in attendance representatives of Sister agencies as well as stakeholders.
Speaking at the Ceremony, Comptroller Dera Nnadi, now the Customs Area Controller, Tincan Island Port Command, Lagos, said he had kept fate with the promises he made upon resumption of duty.
He said, "Upon my resumption of duty on January 23rd, 2023, I pledged to adopt new strategies to boost trade while enforcing the nation's anti-smuggling laws along the Abidjan-Lagos Corridor, this is in line with ECOWAS protocols on free movement of goods, persons and services.
We have kept fate with these promises".
"The revenue target for the Command for 2023 is N1.966 billion; as of Friday, 15th of September 2023, the Command has collected N2,088,578,048.00. By this, it means that we have surpassed our revenue target for the year by N123,578,000", he stated.
He appreciated Officers who assisted in achieving the feat, as well as stakeholders and other government agencies who have helped in their efforts to keep up with the mandates of the NCS' Management.
He urged them to repeat such a feat as they work with the incoming Customs Area Controller.
In his remarks, the incoming Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Timi Bomodi, congratulated Comptroller Nnadi on the Command's achievements.
"A very big congratulations to you, indeed. I and all of us seated here are compelled to act in the spirit of the times, and the spirit of the times dictates that we begin to think of new ways that we can create to make this corridor the most viable and excellent in terms of trade facilitation", he said.
"We need the cooperation of everyone working here, as Customs Officers, Sister Agencies and other stakeholders, because it is not a man's job. It is the job of all of us", he added.
He promised to run an all-inclusive administration where the views of every stakeholder will be taken into consideration.
He described his predecessor as a thorough-breed professional who has proven himself over time and would be able to meet and exceed expectations, even as he takes on the leadership of the second largest port in Nigeria, Tincan Island Port.
